Water requirement for Pharmaceutical industries can be classified at several stages; viz.

Potable Water for early stages of chemical synthesis and early stages of equipment cleaning.

Purified Water used as excipient in the manufacturing of medicines, preparation of bulk chemicals and equipment cleaning.

Water for Injections (WFI), used as an excipient in the manufacturing of the potentials. Also used for preparation of sterile bulk chemicals.

At first stage, raw water sourced from river or borewell, is treated to make it potable.

Potable water then treated to remove dissolved solids, ions to yield Purified water.

Purified water is distilled to obtain WFI
